WHAT IS RHEUMATOLOGY?
Rheumatology is the specialty of medicine that deal with joints and the connective tissue of the body. It is a specialty that deals with the whole body, not just a part.
Interestingly, the word rheumatology comes from the Greek meaning ‘flows like a river’.

Rheumatology deals with conditions affecting the joints, muscles and autoimmune connective tissue diseases.

Common conditions that Rheumatologists investigate and treat are:
-
Arthritis and joint and muscle pains
-
Autoimmune diseases such as Lupus and other connective tissue diseases including vasculitis of which there are many different types
-
Evaluation and treatment of different sorts of musculoskeletal pains
Rheumatologists are diagnostic experts, skilled in the assessment of whether or not a certain set of symptoms are due to an autoimmune disease, or perhaps something else.

If you have pain and/or immune symptoms a Rheumatologist is a good person to see for a thorough evaluation.
